Westwin Elements selected Natchez, Mississippi, for its planned commercial Class 1 nickel refinery. A January Georgia environmental notice had placed the proposed refinery at 1 Caesarstone Drive in Bryan County. Westwin says the Mississippi project still must finish financing, permitting and engineering, with first-phase commissioning targeted for 2029.

Why it matters

The site choice ends the company's Bryan County refinery proposal and shifts the debated industrial project to Mississippi.

What to watch

Watch for Mississippi financing and permits, and for Georgia EPD to close out the Bryan County proposal.
